Town Branch Earth Channel

Under the Supplemental Watershed Work Plan and Agreement for the Flat Rock Creek Watershed, the Crawford County Conservation District partners with the City of Van Buren, Arkansas and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to be the sponsor of the Town Branch Earth Channel also known as the Town Ditch. This agreement was signed on March 6, 1975. The concrete-lined channel is operated and maintained by the City of Van Buren, Arkansas. The floodwater retarding structure earth channel of approximately 2.7 miles is maintained by the Crawford County Conservation District. This channel is part of the Flat Rock Creek Watershed Project and provides flood control for the south part of the City of Van Buren.

On June 15, 2022, we were notified that Crawford County was selected as 1 of 28 recipients from 101 requests for FEMA BRIC (Building Resilient Infrastructure & Communities) Direct Technical Assistance Grants! Crawford County has been approved for a FEMA study on the Town Branch Earth Channel located in Van Buren, Arkansas. This is the first step for project funding.
